Nintendo Wii – 2006

While some of the consoles we’ve covered about will have you on the edge of your seat. The Nintendo Wii took things up a notch. This system literally had you out of your seat, on your feet and dancing around your front room like an absolute looney. The Wii controllers (that’s right, plural per person) were fitted with motion sensors picked up by a strip that you placed and calibrated near to your television set.

The idea behind the Wii was to encourage more physical activities within the the home whilst enjoying the fun of video games. Some of the most popular and best selling games featured on the Wii were:

  • Wii Sports
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Wii Sports Resort
  • Super Smash Bros Brawl
  • Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
  • Wii Fit

The Wii then went on to expand into a groups of consoles of its own with the production and release of the Nintendo Wii U in November 2012. All of the above games are available on Amazon and you can grab your own Wii console by clicking here.

Nintendo Switch Console 2017

Nintendo Switch – 2017

This article’s final and Nintendo’s most recent release is the Nintendo Switch. Aptly named due to its versatility as a hybrid console. The Nintendo Switch can be used as both a handheld like many of its predecessors or connected to a television. Again, like many of its predecessors.

The Switch resembles the build of a tablet but has various connection points for gaming accessories. The most popular of accessories is the Joy-Con which consists of two detachable controllers that can work wirelessly also.

Continuing the evolution

Nintendo has played a huge part in millions of lives. The company has seen some ups and downs but for the most part remains strong and a solid feature in our collections of gaming systems. We would like to congratulate Nintendo not only on their 130th birthday this September but also on their ability to stay true to their creativity with every release.
